Lukashenka has phone conversation with Putin

According to the press office of the Belarusian leader, during the conversation, initiated by Mr . Putin, the two heads of state discussed a number of issues on the bilateral agenda, putting emphasis on ways of expanding trade cooperation. They agreed to continue to make joint efforts to maintain the positive dynamics of cooperation.

Mr. Putin invited Mr. Lukashenka to come to Russia in the near future. In particular, the two heads of state may meet in Sochi to discuss in detail the entire range of Belarusian-Russian relations.

According to the press office, Messrs. Lukashenka and Putin paid attention to the development of integration within the Eurasian Economic Union and the implementation of the agreements that had been reached earlier. They also talked about preparations for a session of the Eurasian Interstate Council in Saint Petersburg on July 27.

Messrs. Lukashenka and Putin also talked about international issues.

In particular, they discussed in detail Russian-U.S. relations, including the results of Mr. Putin’s recent talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Helsinki, Finland. Mr. Putin reportedly told the Belarusian leader that particular attention had been paid to arms control and the prolongation of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which was signed between Russia and the United States in April 2010 and expires in February 2021.
